Eric found a group
of slides that were taken twenty five years ago at Grandma Bell’s
82nd birthday dinner in April 1980. Here are some details that he
remembered from that family get-together:
It was held at an Italian restaurant on North Avenue just West
of Mannheim Road in either Stone Park or Northlake. The name of
the restaurant was Tirtillo’s (spelling?) and they used to be
just a pizza restaurant in another location where we used to get
our pizza. But after they moved to this new location they had
suddenly transformed into a high priced, fancy Italian
restaurant. However, their food was very good.
At this same time Tina McKillip had come to Chicago from
California to visit with a boyfriend who was in the Navy
and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Center. They were
both staying at our house and they attended this family
gathering for Grandma Bell’s birthday. The Bullard family
was well represented and so were the Yaccino and the Franke
families. There were evidently no Danielsons present.
An amusing detail that I recall was the fact that the younger
generation, being definitely in a party mood, took full
advantage of the fact that their parents were sponsoring
this outing and they racked up a bar bill that could choke
a horse. Although we loved the little devils perhaps it
wasn’t so amusing after all!
Thanks, Eric, so much, for sending this wonderful collection!
